IO Scalability With Solid-State Drives

In my current consulting project, I work with two colleagues Markus and Niko every day. Markus (the 2nd) is doing his part of work through his own company and he has told us some exact business numbers such as what is our real daily price for the customer company and how expensive it is to run the business. Without that information on mind, it is much easier to become an Average Joe and think that time in work does not cost anything. My experience tells that not enough developers or even management personnel know how much money their company burn in an hour.

AMD Phenom(tm) II x4 20 Processor

KiloLAN #2 started in Espoo this weekend and we enjoyed the top gamers from Hungary, South-Korea and Finland. During games we also checked if the rumours are true about Phenom2 core unlocking.

cpuinfo was showing that test server was running with 3 cores even if physically the CPU is a quad-core circuit.

"My PC is better than yours..."

After few hours of fighting with HDD encryption (LUKS), SSL certificates and IOMMU, I can finally say that the new AMD Phenom(tm) II X3 720 based server is up and running in the Kilo-office. From now on all the hard-drive content is software encrypted and new server has 4 GB of 1066 MHz RAM. Case cooling was also improved keeping the new system more stable with less fan noise.
