Chitchat from a Finnish Software Engineer
Not to build software but to design software.

Quick MySQL performance boost

Few domains on the server, such as Istvan's ESN-ASK depend on MySQL-database, which has partly Finnish roots due to lead developer Michael Widenius. MySQL's future is a bit unclear for now because it was first bought by Sun Microsystems and later on by Oracle, which is one of the largest software companies in the world and it has its own relational database application. In the worst case Oracle will end the MySQL project and popular internet sites such as Google, Facebook and Wikipedia have to search for alternatives.

"My PC is better than yours..."

After few hours of fighting with HDD encryption (LUKS), SSL certificates and IOMMU, I can finally say that the new AMD Phenom(tm) II X3 720 based server is up and running in the Kilo-office. From now on all the hard-drive content is software encrypted and new server has 4 GB of 1066 MHz RAM. Case cooling was also improved keeping the new system more stable with less fan noise. Special thanks to Jimm's PC and Verkkokauppa for the hardware and Misters Korpi, Riihonen, Mak and Choo for shopping trips. :-)

MarkusVirtanen.com 4.0

Thursday, 20 Aug 2009, is the day we should celebrate because MarkusVirtanen.com made a comeback! This time the version number is 4 because Mika was saying that he'll upgrade his site to 3.0 and my domain should always be one step ahead of his. :) Big thanks also to Joakim and Istvan for their interest towards new kind of CMS which I also started to use.
